Purchased a new battery, old one left me stranded in Connecticut! Went to PEP Boys (Yeah I know) Never do that again,.....only place open a time with Bosch Battery... Ok I had battery installed, now my ML has loss of power and hesitation during hard acceleration and won't upshift without a couple of good stomps on the throttle, any ideas, feels like transmission is out of sync, is this possible? I know I had to re-enter security code for MCS. :? going to Mechanic tomorrow.

what year is your ML? After a certain year the ML has a tranny that learns driving habits... it might just be that it has yet forgotten it. Also Pep Boys isnt a bad place to go for a battery, should of bought an Optima Dry Cell Battery

Optima does not make a battery for ML55's I was told, the truck was running smooth until new battery was installed.

The loss of power is what makes me concerned, the hesitataion etc...that was not there before the battery died. Oh yeah mine is 2001

Optima does not make a direct fit replacement for the ML but that doesnt matter, you should be able to add one!!! OR TWO for the size that diesel battery is

I went to the Optima website before going to PEP Boys and I got this information. I know that they sell optima batteries and that was my first choice.

Please enter the following information about your car,
and find which OPTIMA is right for you.

MERCEDES-BENZ Pickup Trucks, Vans, Minivans or Sport Utilities
ML-Series, ML55 AMG
2002-2000 V8 5.5L
There are no matches available for this vehicle.

I also had the guy at PEP Boys look it up and he could not find a match. Hook me up with a vendor and I will go back to PEP Boys and exchange it.
Right now truck is in shop finding out what's up with the power loss and shifting issues. The Bosch battery installed now is huge!

the reason why they dont have it listed is because they technically make one FOR the MLs... They do however make batteries that can be "retrofitted" to fit... I bought one back in the day but couldnt figure out how the hell to get the stock battery out of there... well the optima sits in the supra now, iI have deepcycled a ton of times, generally the winter when Im not using her she goes dead

Service: Checked DTC codes, reset engine control module adaptations, The transmission learning driving habits you spoke of is what the Tech. says is happining now, The Optima battery retrofit I'll look into that later....overall it is running much better and faster! I've learned two new things today...lol AMGPower!

yeah I still have the hesitataion during launch, I understand that the transmission needs time to learn but how much time is needed?

I will wait a few weeks and see what happens. The coolant leak I had was the reservoir cap (go figure)...in the shop 6 times and it's the cap.

From past experience on another car, if I find a coolant leak, the reservoir cap is the FIRST place I look. Cap had a cork gasket in it that had destroyed itself. Bought replacement cap, no more coolant leak. If it isn't the cap, only then do I look elsewhere.

Hey F14TC,

Yeah I went the other route and replaced water pump, hoses and finally the cap. Dealer took me for a ride that is why I switched..to another.

Our previous two cars had plastic radiators. Each ended up with the connection where the bottom-most hose attaches getting cracks, and coolant would slowly leak out. The solution for both was a new radiator - don't think so (on 12 and 10 year old cars), so I just monitored the coolant level and added when I needed to (in warm weather, about once a month, in cold weather, once every three months). Of course with the AMGs, I won't have such a "so what" attitude :)

With the cost of a motor for these things I kept a very close eye on collant level, even carried around an extra gallon just in case. I'm glad that it's all taken cared of now. If I can get it to respond properly when I accelerate then I will be happy!

nop not 15k, I checked with the folks at kleeman... 8k for the low boost version, and its 11k for the highboost version. Lots of times they will install these free if you buy the product, I see no other better reason to take a road trip!!!

8k will get you 484, 11k will get you 524, so in essence an ML55K would BEAT an ML63 and you could have it right away!!! Also I believe Renntech's kit is good for 544hp

No I have about 8 or 9k of other stereo equipment, but no Ipod... At first I was severely against Ipods, refuse to buy one. But now I need a small MP3 player and it looks like the Nano or shuffle would work, DAMNIT!!!

Yeah stock with a new head gasket, what plans do you have? I'm making a real killer  since I have to rebuild just about everything!! I'll spend a little cheese and I want to paint it jet black no badges and tints! Dual exhaust also.

PM me your email address and Ill shoot you an email of what to do and what not to do when putting in an engine and building up a supra. Stock your ML55 is faster and more capable... but with some work(not much) you can have a pretty capable weekend warrior capable of low 13s in the quarter(or better)

if you haven't fixed your power problem ,its the tranny.
i have an 01 ml55 the batt died and so did my power after new MB batt installed
problem was the shift plates in the tranny 1000 bucks to fix
mine was undert warrantee so no exspense

apparently if your batt dies don't jump and drive or you do damage!

Shift plates what exactly happened? Because of the jump start it screwed up the plates in the transmission. How do you start truck with a dead battery, buy a new one and replace before starting? you are still getting the same results right? It was not a jump from another car it was from one of those portable battery pacs. I'll look into that. Also what are your upshift rpms mine if I launch hard and hold throttle down second or third gear kicks up @ 6000rpm! Thanks!

i did the same thing i jumped it with a jump box then drove maybe 20 miles to get to MB it seemed weak the whole way there i figured it was low voltage ,after the new batt was installed and i drove it home it was still weak i figured maybee it had to re learn a week later it was the same so i took it to the dealer ,
shift plates was how he explained it to me ,which is probrably an electrically operated valve body ,
well heres what was replaced
140-270-08-61 electrics kit 136.80$
140-271-00-80 trans gasket 10.26
140-991-00-55 lock pin 2.00
203-540-00-53 spacer 10.26
