The climate control panel on our 1996 C36 is beginning to fade. When OFF, the O is completely drawn, but I only see ┌ for both Fs (the top horizontal and the first vertical). The rest of the bars are barely visible. This is very intermitent - yesterday it was faded like that for 20 minutes, then I looked and OFF was completely lit. 5 minutes later, faded again. I stopped for a short while, and when I came back and turned the car on, it was fully lit again, and never faded. Nothing else is doing this (radio is OK, odometer/clock/temp OK) so I doubt this is a battery issue (battery is only 2.5 years old). Any ideas? Is the display just going bad? Other possible causes? I just started noticing this about a week ago.

Probably just age TC. My Audi does it (just the display between the gauges, nothin else) In my case, they need to replace entire cluster (reset mileage etc) cant just do the small display. @$600, get half back when you send old one in.

You might be able to shop it around, swap out cores for a better price. I'm just dealing with mine for now.

That's kind of what I was thinking. The climate control still works fine, the display is just fading. No big deal, I was just wondering if it was a symptom of something worse. Thanks!
