As I increase speed, the window is pulled away from its channel. At 100 mph, the separation appears to be about 0.5 - 1". Has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, how did you deal with it? I've had it to the dealer four times but they do not seem to be able to fix it.

Sounds like the window is not closing high enough, or the automatic window thingy that lowers the window a tiny bit when you open and close the door is broken.

The car is a 2004 SL55 and I've owned it since it was new. It's never been in an accident and it's always had this window problem. I'm just finally beginning to lose my patience with it. And the window does close all the way.

Take it to another dealer. Your current dealer is an azzhole and could care less about you. That's why the problem doesn't go away. You bring the car in and they assign some flunkie to fix the problem and nothing changes. Don't take any crap about the 100 mph part either. The window should close properly. I've had my SL up to 160 with no noise at all.
