Well thinking about chipping the ML, got a good price for an upgrade @$1000 for 20 hp and 25 ft/tq from Powerchips...kills my top speed limiter too...I know it's not a lot but I still have the supra to get going.. I have to do something else to the ML. Anyone ever deal with Powerchips, or would Kleemann be a better choice???? either way one It's my first mod to the ML...other than a green filter if you want to call that a mod....

I have heard good/bad things about powerchip. On Benzworld, there is a recent Powerchip review, with Dyno chart (Although its on a ML 63)
either way definetly go forward on it, better yet trade it in on a new 63

Thanks Mark, I'm trying to get it set up for 2 weeks from today..I have to remove my ECU tho,..that kinda scares me a bit! I can do it no problem but shipping it to cali makes me a little nervous, I'll probably check into RPM in NY to see what kind of price they can give me too, I'm sure it's just the beginning of mods for the 55, the supra is next but that's gonna need some electrical work before mods....I looked into a ml63 to much for me at this time, I have a kid looking into colleges already... maybe in a few years...

Dooooiiiiiitttttt!!! I seem to recall you saying that you'll allow me to drive the ML if I ever visit.
D'oh! Shouldn't have said that.

I totally understand where your coming from, I always wanted to chip an AMG, but like you concerned about the DIY stuff required and shipping / with a non functional vehicle. seems like we should be able to drive in somewhere, chip and test, and drive out....
definetly post your progresses
I'm not sure whats involved with the AMG, but I did this to my S4 a while back. It was pretty straight forward, take some plastic shrouding off and unplug the ecu. I sent it with insurance to cover the cost of the ecu. They returned it like said within 48 hrs. I plugged it in, turned the key to "on" for 30 seconds (for throttle body adjustment) and then cranked her over. The shop I deal with now for the audi's has the software at the shop and can do it while you wait, maybe there is similar for your application.
I can relate with the trust issue, but these tuners have done this 100's of times, you should be fine. Or of course like you said, take it to a shop and let them deal with it. Maybe even get a free dyno run thrown in to prove the gains!
Good Luck with it!

Phil/Mark,
Is there a chance the MB dealership will re-Flash the ECU the next time they service it? Or is it undetectable?

Supposed to be undetectable
I don't have a warranty so it won't effect me...when the ML breaks down, I cry, scream, :smt091 suck it up, :drinkers: and pay to have it fixed ...all in that order!

Agreed when I checked for the C, I am assuming same, since the 07 are the same command center for the most part.
My roadmap is to go visit brabus, and get info on the lowering module (I really want that adjustable) - and any minor perf tunning, in the low end $ range ($5-10k) only becuase of the tight partnership brabus has, (kleeman to some extent) but Brabus is just a few min away so if they can do it I would prefer that route.

RPM Racing is close to my area I might see what a kleemann ECU upgrade costs, I think I'll give them a call this afternoon...oooo brabus is HOT!!! they are selling a brabus 06 ML500 with 500 hp on the kleemann website...

Well got the news from Anthony at RPM OK,.... Kleemann ECU, $1000, Kleemann PULLEY UPGRADE $400, HEADERS: Kleemann headers $4000, MUFFLERS $2500.
SO we talking @$9000 for a 100hp increase, a little to much for that little gain in hp.
I'm going for the ECU AND THE PULLEY ASSEMBLY...@35HP GAIN FOR $1500.
For $9000 I might as well go for the full K2 for $12000,...so this will be the first stage of more to follow.
Damn I did not think that it would be $4000 for a set of headers.. if it was more in the 1 to $2000 range I would have gone for that upgrade, but I can't justify $9k for 100hp increase...JMO!
ML will probably go into the shop end of next week or the beginning of the following week....more to follow

The Bi-Xenon's are a great start, for real vision improvments, and external estetics. totally updates the car.
I enjoy the updates on yours, I miss seeing my neighbors Gray ML55 he still owns the unit but I think he is leasing it out, as I have not seen him or his ML in months (I was kinda waiting to show him my 63) seeing yours reminded me the 55's are still cool for sure!
Mine is cooler though hehehehehe

PIAA H7 Xtreme cool blue lamps $70
I have a price on a new xenon HID kit from Hella or Phillips for about $400 that I might look into...I don't think the original ballasts will fit or use the H7 xenon bulbs which the assemblies are setup for...so I just might have to go with a new HID kit and new bulbs...
