Basically, I'm looking for the ECU that gives the greatest horse power and torque increase? Are there any that can give a 50hp and 50lb-ft boost?

I'd compare EvoSport with Renntech - I've heard EvoSport is cheaper but they both offer roughly the same power - Renntech has power gain listings & pricing on their website in a PDF

Wish I could help a fellow C55 owner further - but the only ECU upgrade I know of would be Renntech and their ECU upgrade gives only 10 bhp and 24 lb-ft. Sounds low - but most NA engines cannot take much further chip tuning. Supercharged and turbo engine's boost can be increased with chip tuning, thus, increasing the amount of horsepower immensely.

Sorry I couldn't be of further help.

According to powerchip there upgrade gives you 25hp and 26lb-ft more. Does anyone know if brabus or kleemann offer an upgrade without getting the supercharger?

I'm not familiar with powerchip - is it that same company that chips every car out there? I always am concerned when a company is not specifically focused on tuning a set of cars - they may be pushing the engine in the wrong way - for example, leaving the injector duty cycle too high or pushing the engine to a lean state.

I'm just not familiar with them.

Powerchip also claimed 15hp i think it was on the C43 but somebody I know did the Powerchip on the C43 and didnt gain or feel ANYTHING. I say go with RENNTech, its a proven product. I especially say RENNTech b/c its a N/A motor and RENNTech has got real good gains even on the N/A motors...its not that hard for any company to tune more HP out of a supercharged motor, but it takes skill to get as much power as RENNTech does out of the N/A motor.

i would be very careful with the selesction of a ecu-tuner for a N/A-engine. to get some noticeable extra power out of a N/A-engine, some maior invasion have to be made. one is to lengthen the injection-times or to increase the amound of injected fuel. but more fuel needs more air to be burned and thats the toughest point of a N/A-engine. if you have a supercharger or a turbo you are able to increase the boost pressure. but you can´t in a N/A-engine. so if you want to increas the power of your engine i´d prefer some hardware-changes of the hardware like a racing camshaft, changes of the suction- and exhaustsystem. if you do changes like that, a modulation of the ECU does have a much better impact, because the engine-fuel-management can be adjusted to the new components.
but again. the change the ECU in an untuned N/A-engine so far, that you can feel the differences means a much higher risk of a breakdown. i know a lot of cases in which tuned engines of the bmw M5 broke down.

A gearhead freind of mine is close to getting me some factual statistics on a chip he found. supposedly its $600 for up to 40 HP, to get that gain suplement octane boost is required. It is supposedly "configurable" for a range of minor to major HP. As soon as I get it I will post!

I wish they would come out with a programmer instead of a chip that you can just plug into your OBD-II port and upload the program directly into your ECU. I've had the Diablo Predator programmer on all my Ford cars and I loved how reasy the install/tuning process was.

I have set up 1st week of Feb to have my ECU done at Kleeman. Stay tuned (pardon the pun) for results. I will be holidays that week so I won't have any down time.

Can't wait to hear back from you! I was thinking of doing some mods down the road and although I'm not partial to either (Kleeman/Renntech), I'm leaning towards Kleeman for their S8 mod! The works!

I got an email back from Neal at Renntech...

(info@euroteckmotorsports.com)
(Website: www.euroteckmotorsports.com (http://www.euroteckmotorsports.com))

...and he confirmed with me the other day that the HP gains for their ECU setup was 20hp and 24lb-ft torque and it takes off the speed limiter (cool!).

If you don't mind sharing, what does Kleeman charge for their ECU upgrade? If I do this, I'm assuming I can have them do the rest of ths S8 mod too, right?

Nick

PS Sorry for so many questions. I'm learning a lot here and am getting a little excited! :D

I'm excited to hear what we can do as well - I'm sure if we did intake, exhaust and ECU you could get some more hp out of it? Maybe like 40? That woudl put you near 400 chp. (paper racing i know, but its nice to dream!)
