This question makes me feel like a NEWBIE. when it comes to my C55 I guess I am.

ok so reading the manual (a few months ago) and glancing the maintenance schedule the first item is 1000-3000 mile check up. I took it in shortly past 1000 with an OK. The next page is 10,000 mile oil change ?

I am so used to chaning my oil ever 2500-3000 regardless it seems wrong. I currently have 2402 miles. Question is

Do I change it or wait till 10k? what services are recomended by the Merc veterens?

the more often u change ur oil (within reason), the longer the motor will last you and smoother it will run... i never exceed 5k miles for oil changes... i usually do mine every 4k miles.

Thanks,

so why do the manuals propose such low maintenance? to ensure trade in on newer models perhaps? I will most likely yield to the 5k model. <edited> which means I will change it

b/c 10k miles is the standard Maximum lifespan for synthetic oil!!! I would never want to exceed the Max standard unless I had no choice.

I suggest a 5K mile check up.

I'm not sure why manufacturers state that. But I for one, change my oil every 5k miles or 5 mos at the max. Mainly because I subject my engine to difficult conditions: stop and go driving, short trips, high rpms, etc.

For the normal drivers of the world that don't push their car to the limit - I don't think its a big deal. For those that do - I think changing the oil regularly is important.
