So I opened the glove box on Saturday, and when I went to close it, it wouldn't latch. We've had problems with this before, but usually a couple of good shoves and it would catch. Not this time. So I took out the 4 screws holding the handle and front of the glove box to the inside. There are more screws at the bottom, but I didn't want to take it off the hinges. Fortunately there was just enough give so I could separate the front and back to see what was happening. The latch itself is simply held in place by a plastic "pin", if you will. The head of that pin probably originally had a little ball/wider section on it. Over the years, as you open and close the door, that plastic ball had gotten worn away so when you would now go to close the glove box, the latch itself would push backwards, off of the pin, thus becoming too far away to actually latch. Solution: a small piece of wood which I superglued to the back of the latch. The wood was just thick enough that it now rests against the inside front of the glove box door - the latch has no place to go and remains firmly in place. No more slamming of the glove box door to get it to latch - a gentle push and it catches every time.
