So I was on the highway Sunday going about 75 - 80MPH and I hit the accelerator hard to get it to downshift to pass someone. As it tried downshifting it felt really strange, almost like the engine got bogged down. Then the Check Engine Light (CEL) came on right at that moment. When I got off my exit and came to the stop light the engine seemed to be vibrating very harsh. I could feel it vibrating hard like it was going to stall but it didn't. We got to our destination and I shut off the truck. Ate some lunch for about an hour or so then came back out and she started up fine! No vibrations at all. No rough idle. Everything has been fine since Sunday. Of course the CEL is still on. I assume it is an O2 sensor or a MAF sensor. Can it be one of these things if the truck is running fine now? When will the CEL go off? I guess I should go get it checked but since the engine seems to be running fine now I am not in any rush. Maybe I shouldn't let this go too long huh? I hate to be doing some sort of damage to my truck and not know it.
Oh well.....time to throw more money at this thing! lol

MAS or Throttle actuator, take it to pep boys and have them check the code its throwing. It take three cycles or ?? miles before it goes off, I could never get that right, another MB quirky procedure, like driving in a circle at 15mph with the passenger window down to reset the compass...

I'm thinking maybe just let it go since it seems to be running fine right now. Is that bad? I don't want to damage the engine somehow.

DONT DRIVE IT, YOU'RE GONNA BLOW THE ENGINE...

Its fine, since you were accelerating and you misfired you prolly need a new MAF or to clean your existing one. Mine would do it on occasion, I would clean it off and as good as new.

Thanks Pete! lol I think I will let it go for now. Is the MAF easy to clean? Where exactly is it? What do you clean it with? How much will an undependant shop charge me for one of those? Definitely not going to the stealership for that!

Went to the independent shop down the road to get it checked out and the codes were: misfire in cylinder #8. The spark plugs and wires have only 26K miles on them. Guy cleared the light and codes for me so I'm just gonna wait and see if it happens again.

Also had a "stop light switch" or "Stop lamp switch" code, cant remember. Guy said it was nothing but didn't expain it to me. What is that?
